Data bekend Nokia Lumia 800 update

Eerder deze maand berichtte we al over dat er een Nokia Lumia 800 update beschikbaar zal komen die niet alleen de batterijduur zal verbeteren maar ook het geluid. Eerst dook deze update op in Singapore waar ook de eerste berichten vandaan kwamen dat de batterijduur tot wel 3x langer meeging. Ofwel, blijkbaar lekte de Nokia Lumia 800 daarvoor onnodig stroom weg.

Momenteel wordt de update uitgerold in Duitsland onder dezelfde codenaam ’12070′ en het lijkt erop dat de update in verschillende batches over de verschillende regio’s uitgebracht wordt. De komende data voor de uitrol zijn 4, 11 en 18 april. Op deze data zal de update beschikbaar moeten zijn voor alle regio’s waar de Nokia Lumia 800 officieel verkocht is. Nokia legt uit waarom het wat langer kan duren dan je zou verwachten:

“If you don’t see your country or operator listed in the first batch, or even the second one, you may feel like you’ve been passed over, but there is a reason for this. Firstly, every software update for Windows Phone has to go through Zune (or its alter ego, Windows Phone 7 Connector, on the Mac).

The real-life analogy that I can think about to describe this is herding sheep through a gate. For a Windows Phone partner, developing a smartphone is like that: there’s always a balance to be struck between what you can do and what you’d like to do, between what you can offer now and later. But due to the urgent need to get this update in the hands of people, we were able to bring the schedule forward, although not all at the same time.
And since the new software needs to go through the mandatory testing and approval from each and every operator, the variant for your network will be slotted into a batch as soon as it’s ready.”
Naast een verbeterde batterijduur zal de update ook het geluid verbeteren. Een update om Wi-Fi tethering ter verbeteren staat volgens de Finnen ook al op de stoep.
